pretty much finished a successful week, spent it all in self-imposed deadline fever featuring the usual suspects: house. truck, color prints, a dvd, and the above cyberdoodle. leaving for hot springs this morning for bluff mnt music festival. back tomorrow. i plan to go to my annual movie next week, 3D up:
Movie Review for Up 3D:
"Viewed in 3D-- which you really, really ought to do if you get a chance-- the bright colors of the first half shimmer, while the vertiginous cliffs and flights of the second half send shivers. And for anyone who thinks this is just a goofy story about an old man and a kid and a talking dog, know that this PG-rated children's movie addresses infertility, death, single parenting, loss of childhood illusions, and the necessities of respecting nature."

Nassim Nicholas Taleb::
from the black swan
"We love the tangible, the confirmation, the palpable, the real, the visible, the concrete, the known, the seen, the vivid, the visual, the social, the embedded, the emotional laden, the salient, the stereotypical, the moving, the theatrical, the romanced, the cosmetic, the official, the scholarly-sounding verbiage (b******t), the pompous Gaussian economist, the mathematicized crap, the pomp, the Academie Francaise, Harvard Business School, the Nobel Prize, dark business suits with white shirts and Ferragamo ties, the moving discourse, and the lurid. Most of all we favor the narrated."
read this book. a few pages at a time.

a picture a day. that is what this blog is about as of today. more or less what i've been doing for awhile anyway. glyphs, symbols, the stuff that i've been posting for awhile now.
these will be all over the map, variations, alternate takes, works in progress.
from time to time some words may be included.

went to bev's birthday yesterday afternoon. very small gathering, mostly the younger folks.
i really enjoyed playing music w/ these folks. all kinds of instruments, folks picking up whatever thing they could emanate sound with, no point or goal except to echo the now.
my age group with a few notable exceptions seems to have lost this knack and it is such a loss. it was a real lift to me to see that it is still in the air and happening thank god.

i couldn't sleep last nite. at all. when i looked p frrom the monitors where i was hoplesly looking for ariadne's thread, it was light outdide. tried laying down but nearly vibrated out of bed. so i showered, took care of some household perpendicular angels, and hit the road. errends. when i got back the day was so loely that i drove and hiked to douglas falls where i osmosised HDR photography, example above.
don't know if you saw charlie rose last night. my all time heroine reporter naomi klein was on along with xx. it as the best rose i have ever seen. te guests calmy and with good humor nailed obama not for being a socialist, but for seemingly restoring the ante-staus quo.
i voted for him to change the stranglehold the finance mirage has on you and me. he seems to be changing it back to the warlords, masters of the universe, the demented and disconnected from life.
boo hiss.

ysterday was the first day this i felt sort of comfortable, caught up on major tasks, just a few details left. so i yawed, stretched, and sort of gloated. then i sat down at computerland, took care of a few long neglected glitches, looked up and saw it was light outside.
picture above is one of the results of this whiplash metabolic staccato limbic world.

got hung up trying to create/upload the above. if you can play it - and see it - you're good. i can't.
so consider it a teaser and i'll get it up tomorrow.
meanwhile i'll take a long walk. i am happy to report that i'm almost caught up on all fronts, and it feels kind of.... strange.
**i'll get used to it. the movie plays fine on a fast machine.
vague huh?

"The problem of Web 2.0 music culture, which often gets overlooked in the hype concerning DIY music culture and digital empowerment, as I see it anyway, is how the internet overexposes music culture, breeding and intensifying a kind of fiendish hunger in everyone -- corporate marketing experts, brand consultants, journalists, bloggers and musicians -- to attempt to pre-empt sonic innovation, to get ahead of the curve, so that anything new that happens can be viewed retrospectively, and therefore its shock absorbed. What happens as a consequence is that the time gap between real invention and mass marketing approaches zero, or even inverts. That's why older notions of futurism are so highly problematic in the age of Web 2.0. I think the shadow of the internet will become an increasingly small but interesting place."

i think it was friday nite (?) or thereabouts. when i went to bed i turned on the radio and heard the first news of swine flu in mexico. as the night progressed i would wake up briefly and hear more news. now california, etc. by morning the word "pandemic" was being used and it was reported that here were cases in charlotte NC, about 2 hours away from where i live.
i remain astonished by the speed and progression of the news. not talking about the disease but the conventional world view we all live in. what a difference one night made. coupled with the economic meltdown last fall that seemed to explode in a week or so, this phenomena seems to corroborate the feeling that so many have that the idea that lived experienced time has speeded up and continues to speed up.
meaning that "tomorrow" will bring the new that used to take lifetimes?

this blog is in penultimate phase. i had so much fun on retreat i'm going back to it.
ok that"s fiction. i worked my ass off pulling "stuff" from dwelling because i was feeling. . . claustrophobic. i've got loads for goodwill, landfill, wherever it belongs. and i'm not finished so i'll be back next week.
besides, after years of a daily word i'm done w/ it.
i got involved during the week w/ twitter to find out what was happening w/ the fire in myrtle beach. i could not handle it. yesterday i was describing what i could figure out about how it works. a Buddhist practitioner, he opined that receiving a fast and furious endless real-time string of short disparate posts from the entire world reminded him of the endless noise of discursive thinking one can become aware of during meditation.
me too.

for the last few weeks i've been fooling around w/ yupo paper. above is an example. for some reason i like working with it but folks don't seem to respond to it well. cold and formless, it reminds me a little of marbled paper only not as graceful. probably will use it as a texture, incorporating it into something or another.
i'm taking next week off: i've worn myself out trying to clear out some living space. i'm exhausted and going to retreat into zeroland for awhile. back next week.

i have no idea of what this photo i took is, except that whatever it is i din't touch it w/ photoshop.
about facebook: i recieved an invite to be a friend the other day from an old friend of mine i have seen once in 40 years or so. i clicked on it and his page opened up, complete with picture and some information that could only be his ("relationships: it's complicated"). i guess he recieved an email that said i was now a facebbok "friend" of his.
only thing wrong is he didn't send the original invite. he emailed me that facething reads yr address book and sends invites out to those on the list.
i haven't even checked to see if this is true or well-known but it's weird enough to be true anyone heard this?

do i need to oost a thought or opinion here that might be worth reading?
how about:
"Throw out an alarming alarm clock. If the ring is loud and strident, you're waking up to instant stress. You shouldn't be bullied out of bed, just reminded that it's time to start your day."

according to number, the above image was the 11th i took with digital camera.
what about events in the world? i'm disappointed in obama; he seems to be repairing the "system" so it will work like before: umrestrained greed on the part of thoses in the "know" and total disregard for those on the "now".

did above last nite after returning late from charley and moriah's. beautiful day up there. hot bed platform built, looks and rides good. storage shelves still up on the mountain. ripped all caulking build up from gap between camper shell and edge of truck bed in front. this morning my job ist to clean and scour this stuff off, then, if charly is not working today, get back up there and install shelving. then block leak w/ silicone and some kind of cap. like to het that done today, i think rain returns at night.

from a watercolor i painted in az last month.
rainy overcast day. i ran some wet errands, moriah phoned and we canceled upgrading campershell until a sunny day. i am trying to focus on organizing. something i heard on the radio about ADD being possibly a genetic disposition well suited to hunter-gatherer cultures but not whatever one calls "today's" "culture". for the hell of it assume it is true and you are left with the question of when the culture changed enough to manifest ADD. end of hunter-gatherer culture? 10,000 years ago? or twenty years ago when the choice to putter was slowly extinguished?
focus hokus.

been listening to Tell Tale Signs by dylan incessantly. the great american songbook will never be the same.
from rolling stone review
"Tell Tale Signs is less an anthology than an album in its own right. It seems designed to tell a story that sharpens and expands the vista of mortal and cultural disintegration that has been the chief theme of Dylan's 1997's Time Out of Mind, 2001's Love and Theft and 2006's Modern Times — perhaps the most daring music he's ever made. Tell Tale Signs makes plain that Dylan knows the caprices of the world he lives in, now more than ever."

have been puttering with small quicktime movie for web. as usual there were a few production glitches having to do w/ codec, think i just solved it, if so watch for it above. (no audio).
got lower dentures relined, i think they will work much better. now i am looking - but not very hard - for some kind of process or exercises that will help me to enunciate clearly, ie carry on a conversation.
still reassembling living space. plumbing problem is next: i tried to fix and no go. so will contact landlord for plumber.
talked to charly about camper shell upgrade. aiming for wooden shelves and bed platform, storage under neath. he had simple idea for leak which will probably work.
ac seems weak since i got heater motor replaced, need to look into that.
i don't know much about voodoo economics or accounting, but "toxic asset" makes no sense to me. could it more accurately be described as "debit"? is there such a thing as "healthy debit"?

mud season
how to describe our world now:
institutions:
church, town hall, Congress, any government, educational including "higher", chain stores, highways, commerce
a big etc.
have all become obsolete because they no longer work. one time they did.
so the question is why? will they "hit bottom" and work again? no.
because they are all hierarchical in nature, top down, and the worker bees can no longer pretend they are part of a greater whole. the power complex, always part of the institution since the beginning of civilization has become clearly visible. the power mongers ruthless thugs, with no regard for life.
institutional evolution, or cultural evolution where the most powerful survive by dealing in smoke and mirrors.

a quickie. i've always enjoyed clouds. an old girlfriend thought this was an indicator of something not quite right.
terrible night last night. the night before i had tripped and fallen, and my insulin pump was damaged. i thought it was fixed when i went to bed last night. so alarm was going off many times during the night. the last time i think i really did fix it and BG was right when i woke up.
plan for the day: catch up on the undone from a list i made monday. the list hasn't changed much.

watercolor i did at my dad's place. i did 5 or 7 there, brought them back to make right, and this is the first one i made right.
i'm still dazed and confused by trip, but if i don't bounce back i'll crawl back.
i saw a lot of cable tv which i refuse to have here at home, and overall was amazed at the burbles and bubbles of meaningless activity displayed. junk discourse. there is a lot of talk today of the way the brain keeps changing in response to it's time in the world, new circuits etc and i suggest that being surrounded by colorful winking blipping pixels that purport to signify is way worse then us tranced folks - everyone - can imagine. in large poart it is responsible for the empty stylistics of modern man.
don't worry about the catastrophe; it's already happened.
